How we build - We learn the job before we shape the product.
We start with the part of a process still held together by notes, tabs, and memory. Then we narrow the problem and build around how people already work.
- Start with the messy part. Notes, extra tabs, repeated steps, and things only one person remembers are usually where a better product can help.
- Stay close to the work. We talk to the people doing the job and pay attention to the details that disappear when a product is designed from a distance.
- Use technology with restraint. Technology has to remove work from the day. If it does not, it stays out.
Why Martinsburg?
The name started with a macaw on a nursery mobile.
A macaw on our co-founders’ baby’s nursery mobile was the first thing to hold their child’s attention, so they started calling the bird Martinsburg. When they started the company, the name came with them.
